1 Kings program of players and websites
Historical books
Joshua,judges,ruth, 1 & 2 samuel, 1&2 kings , 1 &2 chronicles, Ezra, Nehemiah and Esther
The players, in order of appearance...sort of...
King David
Abishag the Shunammite
--Joshua 19:7 ((The Land of Issachar))The fourth lot came out to Issachar, for the children of Issachar according to their families. 18 And their territory went to Jezreel, and included Chesulloth, Shunem,19 Haphraim, Shion,....
--2 Kings 4:8 8 Now it happened one day that Elisha went to Shunem, where there was a notable woman,
(Adonijah’s “team”)
Adonijah the son of Haggith (His mother had borne him after Absalom)
1.) Joab the son of Zeruiah, David’s most trusted general
2.) Abiathar the priest A son of Ahimelech or Ahijah
(the following were not with Adonijah but supported Solomon)
1.) Zadok the priest 2 Samuel 15:24 There was Zadok also, and all the Levites with him, bearing the ark of the covenant of God. And they set down the ark of God, and Abiathar went up until all the people had finished crossing over from the city.
2.) Benaiah the son of Jehoiada,
Samuel 20:23 And Joab was over all the army of Israel; Benaiah the son of Jehoiada was over the Cherethites and the Pelethites;
3.) Nathan the prophet, Prophet; lived in the reign of David. On three occasions he appears as the king's successful adviser.
4.) Shimei,Benjamite of Bahurim, son of Gera, "a man of the family of the house of Saul" (II Sam. xvi. 5-14, xix. 16-23; I Kings ii. 8-9, 36-46). He is mentioned as one of David's tormentors during his flight before Absalom, and as imploring and winning David's forgiveness when the latter returned. David, however, in his dying charge to Solomon, bade him avenge the insult (I Kings ii. 1-9)
5.) Rei, Verses with the word rei in the Old Testament (1 verse)
6.) and the mighty men who belonged to David .2 Samuel 23:8,, 1 Chronicles 11:107.) Solomon8.) Bathsheba (Mother of Solomon)9.) the Cherethites, and the Pelethites (( By this phrase was designated the corps d'élite and body-guard))
The combined phrase Cherethites and Pelethites is only used by the Bible to refer to a group of elite mercenaries in the employ of King David, some of whom acted as his bodyguards, and others as part of his army.
PLACES
The stone of Zoheleth, which is by En Rogel zo'-he-leth, ('ebhen ha-zacheleth, "serpent's stone"): "And Adonijah slew sheep and oxen and fatlings by the stone of Zoheleth, which is beside En-rogel" (1 Ki 1:9). Evidently this was a sacred stone--probably a matstsbhah such as marked a Canaanite sanctuary. A source of "living water" has always in the Semitic world been a sacred place
Gihon 2. A fountain near Jerusalem where the anointing and proclamation of Solomon as king took place the horns of the altar The Family of David
1 Chronicles3
Now these were the sons of David who were born to him in Hebron: The firstborn was Amnon, by Ahinoam the Jezreelitess; the second, Daniel, by Abigail the Carmelitess; 2 the third, Absalom the son of Maacah, the daughter of Talmai, king of Geshur; the fourth, Adonijah the son of Haggith; 3 the fifth, Shephatiah, by Abital; the sixth, Ithream, by his wife Eglah.
4 These six were born to him in Hebron. There he reigned seven years and six months, and in Jerusalem he reigned thirty-three years. 5 And these were born to him in Jerusalem: Shimea, Shobab, Nathan, and Solomon—four by Bathshua the daughter of Ammiel. 6 Also there were Ibhar, Elishama, Eliphelet,[f] 7 Nogah, Nepheg, Japhia, 8 Elishama, Eliada, and Eliphelet—nine in all. 9 These were all the sons of David, besides the sons of the concubines, and Tamar their sister.
1 Samuel 6:23 Therefore Michal the daughter of Saul had no children to the day of her death
2 Samuel 15:16 Then the king went out with all his household after him. But the king left ten women, concubines, to keep the house.

"If you see a Bible that is falling apart,
it probably belongs to someone who isn't."
Vance Havner (1901-1986)

Revelation 8:1 When the Lamb opened the seventh seal, there was silence in
heaven for about half an hour.
Gen. 4:7 If you do well, will you not be accepted? And if you do not do
well, sin is crouching at the door. Its desire is for you, but you must rule
over it."
Exodus 14:13 And Moses said to the people, "Fear not, stand firm, and see the
salvation of the Lord, which he will work for you today. For the Egyptians whom
you see today, you shall never see again. 14 The Lord will fight for you, and
you have only to be silent."
Jer. 29:11 For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for
welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.
Psalm 27:14 Wait for the Lord; be strong, and let your heart take courage;
wait for the Lord!
Isaiah 40:31 but they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength;
they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary;
they shall walk and not faint.
Amos 3:7 "For the Lord God does nothing without revealing his secret to his
servants the prophets.
Matthew 20:1 "For the kingdom of heaven is like a master of a house who went
out early in the morning to hire laborers for his vineyard. 2 After agreeing
with the laborers for a denarius[a] a day, he sent them into his vineyard. 3 And
going out about the third hour he saw others standing idle in the marketplace, 4
and to them he said, ‘You go into the vineyard too, and whatever is right I will
give you.’ 5 So they went. Going out again about the sixth hour and the ninth
hour, he did the same. 6 And about the eleventh hour he went out and found
others standing. And he said to them, ‘Why do you stand here idle all day?’ 7
They said to him, ‘Because no one has hired us.’ He said to them, ‘You go into
the vineyard too.’ 8 And when evening came, the owner of the vineyard said to
his foreman, ‘Call the laborers and pay them their wages, beginning with the
last, up to the first.’ 9 And when those hired about the eleventh hour came,
each of them received a denarius. 10 Now when those hired first came, they
thought they would receive more, but each of them also received a denarius. 11
And on receiving it they grumbled at the master of the house, 12 saying, ‘These
last worked only one hour, and you have made them equal to us who have borne the
burden of the day and the scorching heat.’ 13 But he replied to one of them,
‘Friend, I am doing you no wrong. Did you not agree with me for a denarius? 14
Take what belongs to you and go. I choose to give to this last worker as I give
to you. 15 Am I not allowed to do what I choose with what belongs to me? Or do
you begrudge my generosity?’ 16 So the last will be first, and the first
last."
Matt. 24:34 Truly, I say to you, this generation will not pass away until
all these things take place. 35 Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words
will not pass away. 36 "But concerning that day and hour no one knows, not even
the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but the Father only.
Romans 3:20 For by works of the law no human being will be justified in his
sight, since through the law comes knowledge of sin.
Romans 3:28 For we hold that one is justified by faith apart from works of
the law.
Romans 4:2 For if Abraham was justified by works, he has something to boast
about, but not before God. 3 For what does the Scripture say? "Abraham believed
God, and it was counted to him as righteousness."
Romans 4:4 Now to the one who works, his wages are not counted as a gift but
as his due. 5 And to the one who does not work but believes in him who
justifies the ungodly, his faith is counted as righteousness,
Romans 5:1 Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace
with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.
James 2: 14 What good is it, my brothers, if someone says he has faith but
does not have works? Can that faith save him? 15 If a brother or sister is
poorly clothed and lacking in daily food, 16 and one of you says to them, "Go
in peace, be warmed and filled," without giving them the things needed for the
body, what good is that? 17 So also faith by itself, if it does not have works,
is dead. 18 But someone will say, "You have faith and I have works." Show me
your faith apart from your works, and I will show you my faith by my works. 19
You believe that God is one; you do well. Even the demons believe—and shudder!
20 Do you want to be shown, you foolish person, that faith apart from works is
useless? 21 Was not Abraham our father justified by works when he offered up
his son Isaac on the altar? 22 You see that faith was active along with his
works, and faith was completed by his works;
James 2:24 You see that a person is justified by works and not by faith
alone.
James 2:26 For as the body apart from the spirit is dead, so also faith apart
from works is dead.
1 Peter 3:1 Likewise, wives, be subject to your own husbands, so that even
if some do not obey the word, they may be won without a word by the conduct of
their wives, 2 when they see your respectful and pure conduct. 3 Do not let
your adorning be external—the braiding of hair and the putting on of gold
jewelry, or the clothing you wear— 4 but let your adorning be the hidden person
of the heart with the imperishable beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which in
God's sight is very precious. 5 For this is how the holy women who hoped in God
used to adorn themselves, by submitting to their own husbands, 6 as Sarah obeyed
Abraham, calling him lord. And you are her children, if you do good and do not
fear anything that is frightening. 7 Likewise, husbands, live with your wives
in an understanding way, showing honor to the woman as the weaker vessel, since
they are heirs with you of the grace of life, so that your prayers may not be
hindered.
2 Peter 1:12 Therefore I intend always to remind you of these qualities,
though you know them and are established in the truth that you have. 13 I think
it right, as long as I am in this body, to stir you up by way of reminder, 14
since I know that the putting off of my body will be soon, as our Lord Jesus
Christ made clear to me. 15 And I will make every effort so that after my
departure you may be able at any time to recall these things. 16 For we did not
follow cleverly devised myths when we made known to you the power and coming of
our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty. 17 For when he
received honor and glory from God the Father, and the voice was borne to him by
the Majestic Glory, "This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased," 18 we
ourselves heard this very voice borne from heaven, for we were with him on the
holy mountain. 19 And we have the prophetic word more fully confirmed, to which
you will do well to pay attention as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until
the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts, 20 knowing this first
of all, that no prophecy of Scripture comes from someone's own interpretation.
21 For no prophecy was ever produced by the will of man, but men spoke from God
as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.
3 John 1:2 Beloved, I pray that all may go well with you and that you may be
in good health, as it goes well with your soul. 3 For I rejoiced greatly when
the brothers came and testified to your truth, as indeed you are walking in the
truth. 4 I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the
truth.
Revelation 8:1 When the Lamb opened the seventh seal, there was silence in
heaven for about half an hour.
Rev. 21 :1 Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and
the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more. 2 And I saw the holy
city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride
adorned for her husband. 3 And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying,
"Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and
they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God. 4 He
will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither
shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things
have passed away." 5 And he who was seated on the throne said, "Behold, I am
making all things new." Also he said, "Write this down, for these words are
trustworthy and true."

2 Corinthians 2:5 But if someone has made anyone sad, that person hasn’t hurt me but all of you to some degree (not to exaggerate). 6 The punishment handed out by the majority is enough for this person. 7 This is why you should try your best to forgive and to comfort this person now instead, so that this person isn’t overwhelmed by too much sorrow.
2 Corinthians 3:4 This is the confidence that we have through Christ in the presence of God. 5 It isn’t that we ourselves are qualified to claim that anything came from us. No, our qualification is from God. 6 He has qualified us as ministers of a new covenant, not based on what is written but on the Spirit, because what is written kills, but the Spirit gives life.
2 Corinthians 6:14 Don’t be tied up as equal partners with people who don’t believe. What does righteousness share with that which is outside the Law? What relationship does light have with darkness?
2 Corinthians 7:6 However, God comforts people who are discouraged, and he comforted us by Titus’ arrival. 7 We weren’t comforted only by his arrival but also by the comfort he had received from you. He told us about your desire to see me, how you were sorry, and about your concern for me, so that I was even happier.
2 Corinthians 12:2 I know a man in Christ who was caught up into the third heaven fourteen years ago. I don’t know whether it was in the body or out of the body. God knows. 3-4 I know that this man was caught up into paradise and that he heard unspeakable words that were things no one is allowed to repeat. I don’t know whether it was in the body or apart from the body. God knows.
2 Corinthians 12: 8 I pleaded with the Lord three times for it to leave me alone.
Galatians 4:13 You know that I first preached the gospel to you because of an illness.
Galatians 4:15 Where then is the great attitude that you had? I swear that, if possible, you would have dug out your eyes and given them to me.
Galatians 6:11 Look at the large letters I’m making with my own handwriting!
Ephesians 1:2 Grace and peace to you from God our Father and our Lord Jesus Christ. 3 Bless the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! He has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing that comes from heaven. 4 God chose us in Christ to be holy and blameless in God’s presence before the creation of the world. 5 God destined us to be his adopted children through Jesus Christ because of his love. This was according to his goodwill and plan 6 and to honor his glorious grace that he has given to us freely through the Son whom he loves. 7 We have been ransomed through his Son’s blood, and we have forgiveness for our failures based on his overflowing grace, 8 which he poured over us with wisdom and understanding. 9 God revealed his hidden design to us, which is according to his goodwill and the plan that he intended to accomplish through his Son. 10 This is what God planned for the climax of all times: to bring all things together in Christ, the things in heaven along with the things on earth.
Ephesians 1:21 far above every ruler and authority and power and angelic power, any power that might be named not only now but in the future. 22 God put everything under Christ’s feet and made him head of everything in the church, 23 which is his body. His body, the church, is the fullness of Christ, who fills everything in every way.
Ephesians 2:8 You are saved by God’s grace because of your faith. This salvation is God’s gift. It’s not something you possessed. 9 It’s not something you did that you can be proud of.
Ephesians 2:18 We both have access to the Father through Christ by the one Spirit. 19 So now you are no longer strangers and aliens. Rather, you are fellow citizens with God’s people, and you belong to God’s household. 20 As God’s household, you are built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets with Christ Jesus himself as the cornerstone. 21 The whole building is joined together in him, and it grows up into a temple that is dedicated to the Lord. 22 Christ is building you into a place where God lives through the Spirit.
Ephesians 3:20 Glory to God, who is able to do far beyond all that we could ask or imagine by his power at work within us;
Ephesians 5:15 So be careful to live your life wisely, not foolishly. 16 Take advantage of every opportunity because these are evil times.
Ephesians 6:10-18 (Put on the armor of God)
10 Finally, be strengthened by the Lord and his powerful strength. 11 Put on God’s armor so that you can make a stand against the tricks of the devil. 12 We aren’t fighting against human enemies but against rulers, authorities, forces of cosmic darkness, and spiritual powers of evil in the heavens. 13 Therefore pick up the full armor of God so that you can stand your ground on the evil day and after you have done everything possible to still stand. 14 So stand with the belt of truth around your waist, justice as your breastplate, 15 and put shoes on your feet so that you are ready to spread the good news of peace. 16 Above all, carry the shield of faith so that you can extinguish the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is God’s word.
18 Offer prayers and petitions in the Spirit all the time. Stay alert by hanging in there and praying for all believers.

This first verse, as you all recall, got me into "hot water"....thanks for the "spirited" discussion....
1 Corinthians 14:34 the women should be quiet during the meeting. They are not allowed to talk. Instead, they need to get under control, just as the Law says. 35 If they want to learn something, they should ask their husbands at home. It is disgraceful for a woman to talk during the meeting.
Acts 2:17 In the last days, God says, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy. Your young will see visions. Your elders will dream dreams. 18 Even upon my servants, men and women, I will pour out my Spirit in those days, and they will prophesy.
Joel 2: After that I will pour out my spirit upon everyone; your sons and your daughters will prophesy, your old men will dream dreams, and your young men will see visions.
Judges 4:4 Now Deborah, a prophet, the wife of Lappidoth, was a leader of Israel at that time.
1 Corinthians 11:5 Every woman who prays or prophesies with her head uncovered disgraces her head. It is the same thing as having her head shaved.
Galatians 3:25 But now that faith has come, we are no longer under a custodian. 26 You are all God’s children through faith in Christ Jesus. 27 All of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. 28 There is neither Jew nor Greek; there is neither slave nor free; nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.
1 Corinthians 14:36 Did the word of God originate with you? Has it come only to you? 37 If anyone thinks that they are prophets or “spiritual people,” then let them recognize that what I’m writing to you is the Lord’s command. 38 If someone doesn’t recognize this, they aren’t recognized. 39 So then, brothers and sisters, use your ambition to try to get the gift of prophecy, but don’t prevent speaking in tongues. 40 Everything should be done with dignity and in proper order.

"Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end." Matt: 28: 19
Acts 2:17 “‘In the last days, God says, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your young men will see visions, your old men will dream dreams. 18 Even on my servants, both men and women, I will pour out my Spirit in those days, and they will prophesy.
Acts 4:24 When they heard this, they raised their voices together in prayer to God. “Sovereign Lord,” they said, “you made the heaven and the earth and the sea, and everything in them.
Acts 6: 8 Now Stephen, a man full of God’s grace and power, did great wonders and miraculous signs among the people.
Acts 16:31 They replied, “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved—you and your household.”
Acts 17:11 Now the Bereans were of more noble character than the Thessalonians, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true.

Today we studied the Gospel of John and covered John 3:16 , many of the "I AM" statements of Jesus and John Chapter 9 (the healing of the man blind from birth, which includes two "I am's" in one sentence)
John 3:16
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
"I AM"
Genesis 15:7 And he said to him, “I am the LORD who brought you out from Ur of the Chaldeans to give you this land to possess.”
Exodus 3:6 And he said, “I am the God of your father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.” And Moses hid his face, for he was afraid to look at God.
Exodus 3:14 God said to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM.” And he said, “Say this to the people of Israel, ‘I AM has sent me to you.’”
John 8:58 Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I am.”
John 9:5 As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.”
John 10:7 So Jesus again said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, I am the door of the sheep.
John 10:9 I am the door. If anyone enters by me, he will be saved and will go in and out and find pasture.
John 10:11 I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.
John 10:14 I am the good shepherd. I know my own and my own know me,
John 11:25 Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live,
John 13:7 Jesus answered him, “What I am doing you do not understand now, but afterward you will understand.”
John 14:6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
John 15:1 “I am the true vine, and my Father is the vinedresser.
John 15:5 I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.
John 18:6 When Jesus said to them, “I am he,” they drew back and fell to the ground.
John 9
1 As he passed by, he saw a man blind from birth. 2 And his disciples asked him, Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?” 3 Jesus answered, “It was not that this man sinned, or his parents, but that the works of God might be displayed in him. 4 We must work the works of him who sent me while it is day; night is coming, when no one can work. 5 As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.”

"Jesus did many other miraculous signs in the presence of his disciples, which are not recorded in this book. But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in his name" John 20:30-31

These verses were of interest after our January 22nd class
Matthew 5:17 “Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them.
Matthew 7:12 “So whatever you wish that others would do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets.
Mark 10:45 For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”
Mark 11:24 Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.
We also found the word "immediately" was used quite a lot in the gospels of Matthew ( I count 14 times) and Mark (35 times)
Matthew 3:16 And when Jesus was baptized, immediately he went up from the water, and behold, the heavens were opened to him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and coming to rest on him;
Matthew 4:20 Immediately they left their nets and followed him.
Matthew 4:22 Immediately they left the boat and their father and followed him.
Matthew 8:3 And Jesus stretched out his hand and touched him, saying, “I will; be clean.” And immediately his leprosy was cleansed.
Matthew 13:5O ther seeds fell on rocky ground, where they did not have much soil, and immediately they sprang up, since they had no depth of soil,
Matthew 13:20 As for what was sown on rocky ground, this is the one who hears the word and immediately receives it with joy,
Matthew 13:21 yet he has no root in himself, but endures for a while, and when tribulation or persecution arises on account of the word, immediately he falls away.
Matthew 14:22 [ Jesus Walks on the Water ] Immediately he made the disciples get into the boat and go before him to the other side, while he dismissed the crowds.
Matthew 14:27 But immediately Jesus spoke to them, saying, “Take heart; it is I. Do not be afraid.”
Matthew 14:31 Jesus immediately reached out his hand and took hold of him, saying to him, “O you of little faith, why did you doubt?”
Matthew 20:34 And Jesus in pity touched their eyes, and immediately they recovered their sight and followed him.
Matthew 21:2saying to them, “Go into the village in front of you, and immediately you will find a donkey tied, and a colt with her. Untie them and bring them to me.
Matthew 24:29[ The Coming of the Son of Man ] “Immediately after the tribulation of those days the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light, and the stars will fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken.
Matthew 26:74Then he began to invoke a curse on himself and to swear, “I do not know the man.” And immediately the rooster crowed.
Mark 1:10And when he came up out of the water, immediately he saw the heavens being torn open and the Spirit descending on him like a dove.
Mark 1:12 [ The Temptation of Jesus ] The Spirit immediately drove him out into the wilderness.
Mark 1:18And immediately they left their nets and followed him.
Mark 1:20And immediately he called them, and they left their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired servants and followed him.
