HOW TO;
I had this idea for my girl and two boys, my thought was this was a way I could actively pray for them as well as point out, what I thought, were imperative verses in the bible for their lives.
Don't rush the project. the idea is for you to pray and learn as you go through the bible and do you tabs and highlights. If you find it's becoming "drudgery" give it a break for a day or so and start fresh.
Depending on the demands on your time you could be done in a week or take well over a month.
I bought a new bible and tabbed these verses in it with the 5 pack "post-it" page tabs from 3-M that come in blue, green, yellow, pink and purple. I also took map color pencils and highlighted the verses on the pages (map colors work best for highlighting the thin pages. "Highlighters" bleed through the pages too easily. Also "yellow" doesn't show up so well so I used "orange" instead).
You'll have some pages with 2, 3 or 4 tabs of different colors but that's O.K. as they may only want to look for verse of "hope" on a particular day they will still be aware of the surrounding verses (I hope)
You'll need at least two or three of the tab packs. Blue gets used up the most if you are using my full list.
You'll also find there's a lot of repetition of some of the verses and concepts. This is your project so do it how you want. I thought the repetition was there for a good reason so I left it. I was also careful to try to include more verses than less to try to achieve balance. Especially in the parts where it talks about men and women's responsibilities to each other. I didn't want the verse list to be used as a weapon to make someone submit to another but rather to understand the relationship is one of interdependence.
I used the NIV so they could understand it better however some of the verses in the King James do sound better.
An exception is Job 31:1 which in the NIV is; “I made a covenant with my eyes not to look lustfully at a young woman.Whereas the King James version has Job 31:1 as; I made a covenant with mine eyes; why then should I think upon a maid? In this case The KJV version sounds more poetic but the NIV version makes the point to me better.
I also used a Holman bible for the youngest kid but I'll probably re-do his to a NIV. My reference bible is a 1984 version of the NIV. The latest NIV version has more changes in translation and is more "gender neutral" which I'm not fond of but I'm not a bible scholar and I don't read Greek or Hebrew so that's a debate for another time. And don't forget to personalize the bible and sign it. Someday they'll appreciate it ....hopefully.
And remember to think about the context of the verse as you go. Sometimes we think that since God told a person or particular group that they would be healed or prosperous that He's saying that to us. Sometimes that's not the case.
