Verse List on Purpose
Verse List on Purpose
May 29, 2013
Recently a good friend of mine (a founding member of a North Texas Equine Aerobatic Team) had a bit of a tumble which gave him pause to consider his purpose in life. Our discussion led to the development of a Verse List page on our purpose in life as found in the Bible. It’s a work in progress. Please feel free to submit Feedback on our CONTACT US page if you know of any applicable verses. And
check back occasionally to see if we’ve added any.
Exodus 9:16 But indeed for this purpose I have raised you up,
that I may show My power in you, and that My name may be declared in all the
earth.
Psalm 15
1 Lord, who may dwell in your sacred
tent?
Who
may live on your holy mountain?
2 The one whose walk is
blameless,
who does what is righteous,
who speaks the truth from their heart;
3 whose tongue utters no
slander,
who does no wrong to a neighbor,
and casts no slur on others;
4 who despises a vile person
but honors those who fear the Lord;
who keeps an oath even when it
hurts,
and does not change their mind;
5 who lends money to the poor without
interest;
who does not accept a bribe against the
innocent.
Whoever does these things will
never be shaken.
Psalm 20:4 May He grant you according to your heart’s
desire, And fulfill all your purpose.
Psalm 86:12 I will praise You, O Lord my God, with all my
heart, And I will glorify Your name forevermore.
Psalm 146:1 Praise the Lord! Praise the Lord, O my soul!
2 While I live I will praise the Lord; I will sing praises to my God
while I have my being.
Proverbs 1:1 The proverbs of Solomon the son of David, king of
Israel: 2 To know wisdom and
instruction, To perceive the words of understanding, 3 To receive the
instruction of wisdom, Justice, judgment, and equity;
4 To give prudence to the simple,
To the young man knowledge and discretion—5 A wise man will hear and
increase learning, And a man of understanding will attain wise counsel, 6 To
understand a proverb and an enigma, The words of the wise and their riddles. 7
The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, But fools despise wisdom and
instruction.
Proverbs 22: 6 Train up a child in the way he should go, And when
he is old he will not depart from it.
Isaiah 43:6 I will say to the north, ‘Give them up!’ And to the
south, ‘Do not keep them back!’ Bring My sons from afar,
And My daughters from the ends of the earth— 7 Everyone who is called by
My name, Whom I have created for My glory; I have formed him, yes, I have made
him.”.
Jeremiah 29:11 For
I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace
and not of evil, to give you a future and a
hope.
Matthew 25: 14 “For the kingdom of heaven is like a man traveling
to a far country, who called his own servants and delivered his goods to
them. 15 And to one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one, to each according to his own ability; and immediately he went on a journey. 16 Then he who had received the five talents went and traded with them, and made another five talents. 17 And likewise he who had received two gained two more also. 18 But he who had received one went and dug in the ground, and hid his
lord’s money. 19 After a long time the lord of those servants came and settled accounts with them. 20 “So he who had received five talents came and brought five other talents, saying, ‘Lord, you delivered to me five talents; look, I have gained five more talents besides them.’ 21 His lord said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant; you were faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your lord.’ 22 He also who had received two talents came and said, ‘Lord, you delivered to me two talents; look, I have gained two more talents besides them.’ 23 His lord said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant; you have been faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your lord.’ 24 “Then he who had
received the one talent came and said, ‘Lord, I knew you to be a hard man,
reaping where you have not sown, and gathering where you have not scattered
seed. 25 And I was afraid, and went and hid your talent in the ground. Look, there you have what is yours.’ 26 “But his lord answered and said to him, ‘You wicked and lazy servant, you knew that I reap where I have not sown, and gather where I have not scattered seed. 27 So you ought to have deposited my money with the bankers, and at my coming I would have received back my own with interest.
28 Therefore take the talent from him, and give it to him who has ten
talents. 29 ‘For to everyone who has, more will be given, and he will have abundance; but from him who does not have, even what he has will be taken away. 30 And cast the unprofitable servant into the outer darkness. There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’
Mark 16:15 And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach
the gospel to every creature. 16 He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned.
Romans 8:28 And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.
Romans 12:4 For as we have many members in one body, but all the members do not have the same function, 5 so we, being many, are one body in Christ, and individually members of one another. 6 Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, let us use them: if prophecy, let us prophesy in proportion to our faith; 7 or ministry, let us use it in our ministering; he who teaches, in teaching; 8 he who exhorts, in exhortation; he who gives, with liberality; he who leads, with diligence; he who shows mercy, with
cheerfulness.
1 Corinthians 6:19 Or do you not know that your body is the
temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are
not your own? 20 For you were
bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit,
which are God’s.
1 Corinthians 10:31 Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or
whatever you do, do all to the glory of
God.
Corinthians 12:9
And He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made
perfect in weakness.” Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my
infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon
me.
Galatians 5:22-23
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience,
kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and
self-control.
Ephesians 1:11
In him we have obtained an inheritance, having been predestined
according to the purpose of him who works all things according to the counsel of
his will,
Ephesians 3:8 To me, who am less than the least of all the
saints, this grace was given, that I should preach among the Gentiles the
unsearchable riches of Christ,
9 and to make all see what is the fellowship of the mystery, which from the beginning of the ages has been hidden in God who created all things through Jesus Christ;
10 to the intent that now the manifold wisdom of God might be made known by the church to the principalities and powers in the heavenly places,
11 according to the eternal purpose which He accomplished in Christ Jesus
our Lord,
12 in whom we have boldness and access with confidence through faith in
Him
Philippians 4:8 Finally, brethren, whatever things are true,
whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure,
whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any
virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these
things.
Colossians 3:17 And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in
the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him. 18
Wives, submit to your own husbands, as is fitting in the Lord.
19 Husbands, love your wives and do not be bitter toward them. 20 Children, obey your parents in all
things, for this is well pleasing to the Lord. 21 Fathers, do not provoke your
children, lest they become discouraged.
22 Bondservants, obey in all things your masters according to the flesh,
not with eye service, as men-pleasers, but in sincerity of heart, fearing
God. 23 And whatever you do, do it
heartily, as to the Lord and not to
men,
